Auto Makers: Today’s IBM?

By admin | May 21, 2008

I remember being a stockbroker back in 1990-1991 and IBM was trading well below $100 a share. Most of us remember the IBM PC and yet, how many of us today own an IBM PC? I don’t know anyone, do you? In fact, Dell didn’t exist in 1991 and Windows had little market penetration in the late 1980’s.

Somehow, I look at General Motors, Ford and Chrysler and ask myself this question, “Are these companies the IBM PC’s of this century?”

Martin LaMonica at CNET does a great job of telling this story.
